Dear Cabrona,
I have so much to say but it has been hard to find the right words. There is so much history to share, so much pain to acknowledge, so much to celebrate…I struggle to find the right words.
Thank goodness for my guides, ancestors and mentors. They remind me that I don’t have to be perfect, just authentic. So I start here, I don’t always have the right words and I am experimenting in real time with you. I will do my best to convey an emotionally, somatic and spiritual experience into English language. I have so much to share and it is bursting out. Perfectionism and fear are only pebbles compared to the stream of expression wanting to come through.
Let Yourself, Cry Cabrona is a project born from a decade of reflection, healing, learning and conversations with the women I love. Women of color: Mexican, Latine/x, Black, Asian and Indigenous women.
These conditions are not meant for us to thrive and yet we love, laugh, dance, lead and create. As my grandmother said: It is in our blood. The following letters will be about our stories, challenges and triumphs. So let’s start here..
